Reach >90% data coverage

Collect high quality data from hundreds or even thousands of farms in weeks. Root makes the process painless for both farmers and farm technicians – from simplified questions tailored to the farmer’s region and farm type, document uploads that pre-fill the assessment, to automatically generated results PDFs for farmers.

Ensure best-in-class data quality

Emissions data is only viable for reporting and reduction if it’s accurate. Roots extracts data from existing documents to reduce human error, deploys dozens of automated quality checks based on real farm data, as well as providing a dedicated review centre to check flagged assessments.

Gain holistic emissions insights

Dive deep into farm-level activity data with granular emissions analytics, integrated homegrown feed emissions and biodiversity data. Plan your next steps with a detailed end-of-year report prepared by Root’s climate experts.

Coordinate seamless data collection

Project manage annual data collection without increasing your workload. Collect data during farm visits, or transition to farmer-led data collection – at your own pace. Root supports both ways of working, enabling procurement teams to collaborate with farmers on-farm or support them remotely.

Your frequently asked
questions, our answers

Which methodology does Root use for emissions calculations?

Root embeds leading European emission calculation methodologies like LfL and CFT. You can choose which methodology you’d like to use for each entity based on your requirements. We do not have our own calculation methodology.

Are Root’s emissions calculations compliant with SBTi?

Yes, our emissions calculations are fully compliant with the GHG protocol and SBTi. FLAG splits are provided with results. Our calculations are certified against the GHG protocol along ISO 14064-3 by GutCert. We rigorously test calculations and apply methodology updates several times a year to ensure the best data quality possible.

Who collects the emissions data from farms?

There are several approaches to farm-level emissions data collection, and Root’s platform offers complete flexibility no matter which approach you take. Procurement teams can collect the data by visiting farms in person, or farmers can provide the data themselves while your procurement team supports, or simply manages the data collection remotely.

We collect emissions data from a small sample of our farmers (~10%). Is this not enough?

You need to understand emission hotspots across your entire supply chain. This is because when you move into reductions, you need to know which emission reduction measures to implement on which farms. If you’ve only collected data from 10% of your suppliers, then you will be in the dark about the other 90%. Emissions from two neighbouring farms can vary by as much as 4x.

What results are provided after the data collection?

You’ll receive a weighted average emission factor for your raw ingredient in the Root platform, along with detailed emissions analytics across every supplier. Each farmer also receives an auto-generated emissions report, including FLAG splits and granular emission insights about their farm.

Is Root planning to add more commodities?

If you don’t see your commodity listed, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are expanding to more commodities and would love to have an initial chat about your needs.
