Does Root offer its own calculation methodology?

No – we do not have our own emissions calculation methodology. Instead, our platform is ‘methodology agnostic’ – we integrate with leading, scientifically sound European emissions methodologies that are compliant with the GHG protocol.

Are Root’s emissions calculations compliant with SBTi?

Yes, our emissions calculations are fully SBTi compliant and follow the latest SBTi FLAG guidance. FLAG splits are provided with results. Our calculations are certified against GUTCert. We rigorously test calculations and apply methodology updates several times a year to ensure the best data quality possible.

Does Root ever sell my data, or my farmer’s data?

No, Root never sells data to third parties.

Can we host data on premise with Root?

All of your data is stored on secure servers located in Germany, rather than on premise. This is because high security servers offer robust protection and encryption that goes far beyond what on premise systems can offer. This, alongside our platform’s ISO 27001 certification, offers our customers an internationally recognised standard for the highest information security.

Why should we use one of the leading European methodologies instead of our own in-house calculations, or a regional solution?

While launching new calculators usually stems from the best of intentions, a disjointed mix of in-house and hyper-localised, regional solutions has resulted in slow decarbonisation progress in the F&B supply chain. Rather than investing significant time and resources designing new emission calculation methodologies, Root supports integrating with leading scientific methodologies and national farm databases. Calculations can be adapted to ensure regional specifications are taken into account.
